Bring your perioperative nursing expertise to a 13-week travel nursing assignment in Olney, Maryland. Join a dynamic operating room team supporting approximately 25 surgical cases per day across seven operating rooms while caring for adolescent, adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients. This Maryland travel nurse opportunity offers a welcoming Montgomery County community with green spaces, friendly neighborhoods, and convenient access to the greater Washington, D.C., and Baltimore areas.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,280–$2,400
- Location: Olney, Maryland
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- Schedule: 40 hours per week; daytime schedule with two 8-hour shifts and two 12-hour shifts
- Shift Duration: 8-hour day shifts, with scheduled 12-hour day shifts in the rotation
- Shift Times: Approximately 6:45 a.m.–3:15 p.m. and 6:45 a.m.–7:15 p.m., with alternate starts as assigned
- Call Requirement: Required; 12-hour day or night call shifts may be assigned, with up to five call shifts per six-week schedule and an average of approximately three
- Orientation: 28 hours, including a Monday orientation and one 12-hour buddy call shift during the first two weeks
- Clinical Setting: General operating room with approximately seven rooms and 25 cases per day
- Charting System: Cerner
- Additional Information: Scrubs are provided
Operating Room Registered Nurse Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent operating room nursing or general surgery nursing experience
- Recent experience within the last 7 years; experience supporting at least 2 years within the previous 3 years is preferred
- Previous travel nursing experience, including at least one completed travel assignment
- Active Maryland RN license or compact RN license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Community hospital experience
- Recent Cerner documentation and charting experience
- Clinical proficiency with general, gynecologic, orthopedic, vascular, spine, urologic, robotic, and laparoscopic procedures
- Demonstrated competency in sterile technique, specimen handling, surgical safety protocols, electrosurgical equipment, infection prevention and control, and perioperative emergency response
- Current influenza vaccination is required without exemptions
- Two supervisory references are required, including one from the most recent assignment
Operating Room RN Responsibilities
- Provide safe, comprehensive perioperative nursing care throughout the surgical experience
- Prepare operating rooms, patients, equipment, supplies, and surgical instrumentation for scheduled procedures
- Support circulating and other assigned operating room functions while maintaining sterile technique and universal protocol compliance
- Assist with a broad range of procedures, including abdominal and vascular surgery, hysterectomy, orthopedic and spine procedures, total joint replacement, breast surgery, urology, gynecology, robotics, and laparoscopic cases
- Perform or assist with peripheral IV starts, urinary catheterization, blood and blood-product administration, specimen handling and labeling, and surgical counts
- Monitor patients, recognize changes in condition, and respond appropriately to emergencies such as malignant hyperthermia and code situations
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary support teams to promote efficient, high-quality patient care
- Participate in assigned 12-hour call coverage and provide timely support for urgent surgical needs
- Accurately document patient care and perioperative activities in Cerner
