CVICU Travel RN Job Details
- Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Location: Baltimore, Maryland 21201
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: December 14, 2026
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,290–$2,410
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour rotating shifts
- Shift Times: Day shift, 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.; night shift, 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
- Shift Pattern: Rotating days and nights; every other weekend required
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
- Unit Size: 15 beds with an average daily census of approximately 10 patients
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:1, with up to 3 stable, lower-acuity patients as needed
- Floating: May float within scope to ICU, cardiac progressive care, and other lower-acuity areas; STEMI team or cath lab support may also be required
- Holidays: Required as scheduled
- Call: May be required
- Orientation: 24 hours
CVICU Travel Nurse Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent CVICU or comparable cardiovascular critical care experience
- Active Maryland RN license or compact RN license at the time of submission
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association
- Current CPI certification
- Current NIHSS certification
- CCRN certification preferred
- Demonstrated experience caring for patients with complex cardiac and multisystem conditions
- Epic charting experience required
- Strong experience with 1:1 to 1:3 critical-care patient assignments
- First-time travelers may be considered with strong CVICU skills and experience
- Ability to float within the nurse's clinical scope and work rotating day and night shifts
- Flu vaccination required
CVICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adults and geriatric patients in a cardiovascular intensive care unit.
- Manage patients experiencing cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, heart failure, myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, dysrhythmias, heart blocks, and hypertensive emergencies.
- Care for patients undergoing advanced therapy evaluations, including LVAD and heart transplant workups.
- Monitor and manage patients supported by Impella devices, ventricular assist devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps, ventilators, CRRT, and targeted temperature management.
- Titrate cardiac, vasoactive, sedation, insulin, and other critical-care infusions according to protocol.
- Perform and manage arterial lines, central lines, pulmonary artery or Swan-Ganz catheters, chest tubes, drains, pacing wires, and other invasive monitoring equipment.
- Provide ventilator management, airway care, suctioning, BiPAP/CPAP support, and care for patients with respiratory failure.
- Interpret electrocardiograms, dysrhythmias, arterial blood gases, coagulation studies, and other critical diagnostic data.
- Assist with or perform bedside procedures such as line insertion, bronchoscopy, intubation, chest tube placement, and pulmonary artery catheter insertion.
- Support post-cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterization, TAVR, valve repair or replacement, and other complex cardiovascular patients.
- Respond to STEMI team coverage and collaborate with physicians, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans in Epic.
