Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Travel Nursing Contract in Richmond, VA

Join our healthcare team as an Emergency Department RN for a 13-week travel nursing job in Richmond, Virginia. Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
  • Location: Richmond, Virginia
  • Setting: Community emergency department; all ages and medical complaints; no trauma designation
  • Start Date: October 26, 2026
  • Assignment Duration: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week, 7:30 p.m.–8:00 a.m.; approximately 36 hours per week
  • Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and major holidays required
  • Department Profile: 30-bed emergency department with 14 fast-track beds and additional hallway beds as needed
  • Typical Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4, subject to patient volume and department needs
  • Clinical Support: Respiratory therapy, patient care technicians, phlebotomy, emergency department technicians, unit secretary, 24/7 charge nurse, and on-site physicians with advanced practice clinician support

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license in Virginia or a valid compact-state license
  • At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience, including recent Emergency Department or ER nursing experience
  • Emergency nursing experience with conscious sedation
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Completion of CPI or equivalent de-escalation training
  • Copy of nursing diploma required
  • Electronic health record experience, preferably with EPIC
  • Ability to successfully complete the required EKG examination during orientation
  • Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and crisis-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with patients across the lifespan and remain calm in high-acuity situations

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments, analyze clinical data, and develop individualized plans of care
  • Provide emergency nursing care for medical illness, injury, pediatric concerns, behavioral health needs, women’s health issues, and life- or limb-threatening conditions
  • Triage and prioritize patients, initiate stabilization and resuscitation measures, and respond rapidly to changing clinical conditions
  • Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with professional standards, policies, and applicable regulations
  • Monitor patient responses to interventions, evaluate outcomes, and revise plans of care as needed
  • Provide conscious sedation care and support emergency procedures using sound clinical judgment
  • Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, respiratory therapy, EMS, law enforcement, crisis services, pharmacies, and other departments
  • Educate patients and families while providing compassionate, culturally responsive care
  • Safeguard patient privacy, follow infection prevention practices, and promote a safe care environment
  • Use emergency department equipment such as infusion pumps, ventilators, automated CPR devices, video laryngoscopes, ultrasound, EKG machines, and bladder scanners
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture
