Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890–$1,990
  • Location: Evansville, Indiana
  • Healthcare Setting: On-site, 41-bed surgical medical care unit in a teaching-hospital environment
  • Start Date: November 2, 2026
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks, ending January 31, 2027
  • Schedule: 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 12-hour day shifts, 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Weekend Requirement: Three weekends in each six-week schedule
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
  • Orientation: 12 hours; biweekly orientation schedule
  • Float Requirement: First to float within your skill set, including nearby campuses when needed with advance notice
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5–6 on day shift
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs without competing health-system or agency logos

Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license with an active compact license
  • At least two years of strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
  • Previous travel nursing experience, including at least one completed travel assignment
  • Level II trauma experience
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Recent Epic electronic health record (EHR) charting experience; completion of an Epic checkoff class is required
  • Associate degree or nursing certificate
  • Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing patient-care needs and work effectively in a team-oriented healthcare environment
  • Applicants must reside outside the applicable 40-mile local-radius requirement for this travel nursing assignment

Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for post-surgical and medically complex patients
  • Care for patients following Whipple procedures, vascular procedures, heart catheterizations, bariatric surgery, ENT procedures, podiatry procedures, thyroid surgery, and abdominal surgery
  • Manage patients with dementia, altered mental status, CIWA or detox needs, fall risks, and frequent turning requirements
  • Perform thorough nursing assessments and promptly identify changes in patient condition
  • Insert and manage peripheral IVs, chest tubes, and indwelling drains
  • Provide continuous bladder irrigation and manage stable medication infusions such as heparin, furosemide, and pantoprazole
  • Assist with epidural management, ostomy care, wound packing, wound vacs, and dressing changes
  • Administer blood products safely according to established protocols
  • Interpret telemetry and provide pre- and post-procedure care for heart catheterization patients, including femoral access and TR-band management
  • Collaborate with providers, charge nurses, patient care technicians, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate safe patient care
  • Float within the nurse’s competency when needed and support patient care across nearby care settings
  • Participate in a clinical teaching environment, including precepting students or newly hired staff when assigned
