Description
Join a collaborative medical-surgical travel nursing team in Evansville, Indiana, as a night-shift Registered Nurse (RN). This 13-week travel nurse contract supports a 41-bed acute-care unit caring for diverse adult patients, including post-surgical cases, sepsis, COPD, CHF, UTIs, and high-fall-risk patients. You’ll work in a teaching-hospital environment with experienced leadership, CNA support, and opportunities to strengthen your clinical practice while making a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,930–$2,030
- Location: Evansville, Indiana, a welcoming Ohio River community known for its friendly atmosphere, convenient amenities, and variety of dining, arts, and outdoor recreation options
- Healthcare Setting: On-site, 41-bed medical-surgical unit
- Nursing Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 6:30 PM–7:00 AM
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 5, 2026
- Weekend Requirement: Three weekends during each six-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Orientation: 12 hours, with biweekly orientation scheduling
- Float Expectations: First to float within your skill set; occasional cross-campus floating may be required with advance notice
- Local Candidate Requirement: Candidates must reside outside the 40-mile local radius
Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license with a current compact license
- At least 2 years of strong medical-surgical nursing experience
- At least 1 previous travel nursing assignment
- Level II trauma experience
- Current AHA BLS certification
- Current NIHSS certification
- Recent Epic charting experience; completion of an Epic checkoff class is required
- Associate degree or nursing certificate
- Strong patient assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and adaptability skills
- Comfort working in a fast-paced acute-care environment and supporting students or new team members when needed
Travel RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients during 12-hour night shifts
- Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions using Epic electronic health records
- Care for patients with post-surgical needs, sepsis, COPD, CHF, UTIs, and elevated fall risk
- Manage remote telemetry, chest tubes, NG and PEG tubes, tracheostomies, ostomies, and urinary catheters
- Administer and monitor heparin infusions, blood and blood products, and PCA therapy according to established protocols
- Recognize changes in patient status and escalate concerns appropriately
- Collaborate with providers, CNAs, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Float within your demonstrated skill set and provide safe, patient-centered care across designated locations when required
Medical-Surgical Practice Environment
- Typical night-shift nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6–7
