Travel Nursing Job Details
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN)
- Location: Evansville, Indiana
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890–$1,990
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 5, 2026
- End Date: January 3, 2027
- Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts, 6:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Three weekends in every six-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Unit: 23-bed medical-surgical observation setting
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:4–5 on days, 1:5–6 on evenings, and 1:6–7 on nights
- Float Requirement: Flexibility to float within your skill set, including to nearby campuses, may be required with advance notice
Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Indiana; a current compact license is required
- Associate degree in nursing or an approved nursing certificate
- At least two years of recent, strong medical-surgical nursing experience
- At least one previous travel nursing assignment
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
- Current NIHSS certification
- Recent Epic experience, including successful completion of a required charting checkoff
- Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to work rotating weekends and holidays and support a teaching environment through precepting when needed
Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult patients in a medical-surgical observation setting
- Care for patients with cardiac symptoms, chest pain, post-cardiac catheterization needs, CVA/TIA, hypotension, syncope, shortness of breath, and neurologic concerns
- Manage post-surgical patients and individuals receiving gastrointestinal, urologic, or other procedural care
- Perform focused and comprehensive assessments, NIHSS evaluations, neurologic checks, and dysphagia screenings
- Initiate and titrate appropriate infusions, including heparin and insulin, according to orders and facility protocols
- Provide care for patients with acute kidney injury, cellulitis, detoxification needs, and CIWA monitoring requirements
- Perform and document blood administration, medication administration, and patient response
- Manage indwelling drains, urinary catheters, nasogastric tubes, and related medical-surgical equipment
- Deliver safe, compassionate patient care while collaborating with providers, nurses, patients, and families
- Adapt to changing assignments, participate in cross-campus floating when needed, and contribute to a supportive healthcare team environment
