Join a Level II Trauma emergency department as a travel ER Registered Nurse in Wausau, Wisconsin, and provide high-acuity care during a 13-week assignment. This fast-paced, 18-bed emergency department serves a diverse patient population, including adult, pediatric, geriatric, cardiac, neurological, stroke, and respiratory patients. Wausau offers an appealing central Wisconsin location with scenic trails, outdoor recreation, riverfront activities, and a welcoming community.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,040–$2,150
- Assignment Type: 13-week emergency room travel nursing contract
- Start Date: October 12, 2026
- End Date: January 9, 2027
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week, subject to orientation and low-census provisions
- Nursing Shift: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 5:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
- Weekend and Holiday Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Call Requirements: Occasional call may be assigned in advance; call-back compensation applies when called in
- Float Requirements: None
- Charting System: Epic electronic medical record
- Orientation: 8 hours
Emergency Room Registered Nurse Requirements
- Active Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
- At least 2 years of emergency room nursing or trauma nursing experience
- Recent Level II or Level I Trauma emergency department experience required
- Prior travel nursing or travel nurse experience preferred
- Current BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and PALS certifications through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate degree or nursing certificate required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Recent experience with Epic clinical documentation preferred
- Strong clinical judgment, resilience, adaptability, and the ability to manage patient care independently in a high-acuity emergency setting
Emergency Department Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, timely, and compassionate emergency nursing care to patients across the lifespan
- Assess, triage, monitor, and stabilize patients with medical, surgical, cardiac, neurological, respiratory, and traumatic conditions
- Care for approximately 3–4 patients per nurse while prioritizing rapidly changing clinical needs
- Participate in the care of stroke and other high-acuity patients in a Level II Trauma emergency department
- Perform nursing procedures, administer medications, and provide nebulizer treatments as clinically indicated
- Draw and process laboratory specimens while coordinating care with in-house laboratory, respiratory therapy, and imaging teams
- Document assessments, interventions, reassessments, and outcomes accurately in Epic
- Use Pyxis medication dispensing technology and follow established medication-safety practices
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, technicians, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Respond professionally to changing priorities and complete assigned emergency nursing tasks in a timely manner
