- Location: Evansville, Indiana 47710
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,930–$2,030
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour night shifts
- Shift Hours: 6:30 PM–7:00 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Three weekends every six weeks
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Unit: 22-bed cardiac stepdown setting with typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3–4
- Floating: May float within the nurse’s skill set to nearby affiliated campuses with advance notice when cross-campus coverage is needed
- Travel Eligibility: A 40-mile radius policy applies; local candidates within the designated radius may not be eligible
Travel Registered Nurse Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of registered nursing experience, including at least 1 year in a cardiac stepdown or progressive care setting
- At least 1 previous travel nursing assignment
- Level II trauma experience
- Current active compact RN license
- Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications
- Current NIHSS certification
- Associate degree or nursing certificate
- Recent EPIC charting experience and willingness to complete a telemetry and documentation skills check
- Strong cardiac assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and adaptability skills
Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for cardiac and medically complex stepdown patients
- Monitor and interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs, including identifying clinically significant rhythm changes
- Care for patients following cardiac catheterization, stent placement, interventions, and pacemaker procedures
- Initiate and titrate ordered infusions such as Cardizem, amiodarone, Cardene, nitroglycerin, insulin, and heparin
- Perform focused neurological assessments, NIHSS evaluations, and dysphagia screenings for patients with CVA or neurological concerns
- Manage patients with arrhythmias, sepsis, DKA, respiratory distress, detoxification or CIWA needs, and feeding tubes
- Provide post-procedure care, including femoral site and TR band assessments
- Manage chest tubes, CPAP, Optiflow, peripheral IV insertion, and other progressive-care interventions
- Recognize changes in patient condition and escalate concerns promptly using sound clinical judgment
- Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary team to support safe, high-quality patient outcomes
- Participate in a teaching environment that may include precepting students and newly hired nurses
