Travel Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN) needed in Wausau, Wisconsin, for a 13-week post-surgical care assignment. Use your inpatient nursing expertise to care for adult and geriatric patients recovering from surgical procedures while collaborating with an experienced hospital team. Wausau is a welcoming Central Wisconsin community known for scenic rivers, extensive trails, outdoor recreation, and a comfortable balance of city amenities and natural beauty.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,110–$2,220
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week, except during orientation and designated holidays when the unit is closed
- Registered Nurse Shift: 12-hour variable day/night shifts, typically 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
- Weekend and Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend and holiday
- Unit: 40-bed post-surgical care unit serving adult and geriatric patients
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:4–5 on days/evenings and 1:5–7 on nights
- Clinical Environment: Fast-paced setting averaging 10–15 admissions per day with typical stays of 2–3 days
- Documentation System: Epic electronic medical record
Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements
- Active Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- At least 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience in a hospital setting
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Recent Epic charting experience required
- Associate degree or nursing certificate required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Ability to float to inpatient units as needed
- Strong prioritization, multitasking, communication, and teamwork skills
Medical-Surgical Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients before and after surgical procedures
- Assess patients, monitor for changes in condition, and respond appropriately to evolving clinical needs
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
- Administer medications and treatments using Rovers for medication scanning and Alaris infusion pumps
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in Epic
- Manage multiple admissions, discharges, and postoperative care needs in a high-occupancy unit
- Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support quality patient outcomes
- Float to other inpatient units when required while maintaining consistent standards of patient care
