Travel Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in West Union, Iowa

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
• Location: West Union, Iowa
• Contract: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 26, 2026
• Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour day shifts with a posted shift window of approximately 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and holiday rotation
• Scheduling: No block scheduling; rotating schedules may be assigned according to unit needs
• Healthcare Setting: Level IV, 25-bed Critical Access Hospital with a 20-bed Med/Surg unit
• Patient Population: Acute, observation, skilled-care, same-day surgical, and occasional pediatric patients
• Float: Float to like units as needed
• Call: Optional low-census call when mutually agreed upon; emergency callback may require a 30-minute response time

Med/Surg RN Job Requirements

• Current Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
• Previous Critical Access Hospital experience is required
• Active AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and AHA PALS certifications
• Associate degree or nursing certificate
• Experience caring for patients younger than 18 years of age
• EPIC electronic health record charting experience preferred
• Ability to practice independently, adapt to changing patient needs, and support a small, team-oriented healthcare environment
• Previous charge nurse experience strongly preferred, with the ability to serve as charge nurse backup

Travel RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to Med/Surg patients across acute, observation, skilled-care, and same-day surgical services
• Complete patient assessments, administer medications, implement treatment plans, and evaluate patient outcomes
• Manage a typical patient assignment of 3 to 4 patients, with assignments of up to 5 patients as needed
• Recognize changes in patient condition and collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary care team
• Care for occasional pediatric patients in accordance with established protocols
• Float to comparable units and assist with changing departmental needs
• Support charge nurse functions and help coordinate safe, efficient patient care
• Promote teamwork by assisting colleagues and helping orient or train less experienced nurses
• Participate in weekend and holiday rotations while maintaining a resilient, professional, and patient-focused approach
