LTAC Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Ohio
  • At least 1 year of recent bedside clinical nursing experience required; 2 years preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before the first shift
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required based on the clinical setting
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, prioritize, and provide nursing care for patients with complex medical needs
  • Strong communication, teamwork, organization, time management, and clinical documentation skills

Long-Term Acute Care RN Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments within required timeframes and develop individualized plans of care
  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Monitor patient progress, recognize changes in condition, and promptly communicate pertinent information to providers and nursing leadership
  • Support patient rehabilitation goals and promote positive clinical outcomes through encouragement, education, and coordinated care
  • Initiate discharge planning upon admission and provide patients and families with appropriate education for continued care
  • Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care updates accurately and promptly in the medical record
  • Delegate appropriately and provide direction, training, and supervision to licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and orienting staff
  • Promote patient and staff safety by following infection prevention, safe-handling, fall-prevention, and workplace safety practices
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team during care conferences and ongoing patient evaluations
  • Prioritize assignments, manage time effectively, maintain supplies, and contribute to an efficient and positive unit environment
  • Assume charge responsibilities after completing orientation, as requested
