Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Wilmington, NC

Join a dynamic cardiac stepdown nursing team in Wilmington, North Carolina, as a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) caring for adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiovascular and post-surgical needs. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers consistent night shifts, a collaborative clinical environment, and the opportunity to strengthen your expertise in cardiac telemetry, vascular care, and progressive care nursing. Travel RN Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,770–$1,860
  • Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
  • Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
  • Start Date: October 26, 2026
  • Shift: Night shift, 6:45 p.m.–7:15 a.m.
  • Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week; 36 hours weekly
  • Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
  • Typical Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:6, based on patient acuity
  • Weekend Coverage: Required
  • Call: Not required
  • Orientation: 24 hours
  • Floating: Must be willing to float within or near the facility as needed
  • Holiday Coverage: Must be willing to work holidays, including two of three major holidays

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or a compact state; pending licensure may be considered for submission
  • At least 2 years of cardiac nursing experience
  • Progressive care, cardiac stepdown, medical-surgical, or telemetry nursing experience preferred
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Strong cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
  • Experience with cardiac drips, including titration and non-titrated infusions
  • Experience with post-cardiac catheterization care and sheath removal
  • Ability to successfully complete specialty-specific EKG testing before the assignment begins
  • Proficiency with electronic documentation; Epic experience preferred

Cardiac Stepdown Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with cardiac, vascular, thoracic, and post-procedural diagnoses
  • Monitor cardiac telemetry and identify changes in cardiac rhythms, patient condition, and clinical status
  • Care for patients with atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, valvular disease, endocarditis, peripheral vascular disease, and related conditions
  • Deliver pre- and post-procedure care for cardiac catheterization, cardioversion, electrophysiology procedures, pacemaker placement, and cardiac and vascular surgeries
  • Manage chest tubes, femoral sheaths, TR bands, Fem-Stop devices, epicardial pacing wires, peripheral lines, and central lines
  • Assess and manage patients following CABG, valve replacement, TAVR, MitraClip, Watchman, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, bypass procedures, and other cardiac or thoracic surgeries
  • Administer and monitor cardiac medications and infusions according to clinical orders and unit standards
  • Collaborate with providers, rapid response teams, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record
  • Float as assigned and support patient care needs during high census, emergencies, or operational changes
