Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) – Trauma Level II Travel Nursing Contract in Wausau, Wisconsin

Join a Trauma Level II emergency department in Wausau, Wisconsin, as an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel nursing contract. Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,040–$2,150
  • Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
  • Healthcare Setting: 18-bed, Trauma Level II Emergency Department
  • Start Date: October 26, 2026
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week, excluding applicable orientation and unit-closure exceptions
  • Shift: 12-hour evening and night shifts; available schedules include 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m., 10:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m., 11:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.–5:00 a.m.
  • Weekend and Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend and every other holiday
  • Call: Occasional call may be requested in advance; call-back compensation applies when called in
  • Orientation: 8 hours
  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic

Emergency Room Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • At least 2 years of Emergency Room or Emergency Department nursing experience
  • Trauma Level I or Trauma Level II emergency department experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred; candidates without prior travel experience should have at least 2 years of qualifying trauma nursing experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and PALS certifications through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Associate degree or nursing certificate required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, manage change, and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Comfort providing emergency care across the lifespan, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations
  • Ability to comply with applicable seasonal respiratory illness masking and vaccination policies

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care in a high-volume, fast-paced Trauma Level II setting
  • Assess, triage, stabilize, monitor, and reassess patients with medical, surgical, cardiac, neurologic, respiratory, and traumatic conditions
  • Care for approximately 3–4 patients per nurse while maintaining safe, timely, and compassionate patient care
  • Support the care of stroke, cardiac, neurologic, pediatric, geriatric, and respiratory patients
  • Perform medication administration, laboratory specimen collection, respiratory treatments, and other appropriate nursing interventions
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, radiology and laboratory staff, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, reassessments, and outcomes in Epic
  • Use clinical judgment to recognize changes in patient condition and escalate concerns promptly
  • Maintain a resilient, team-oriented approach while adapting to changing patient acuity and emergency department priorities
