Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PCU RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Greensboro, NC

Join a collaborative PCU travel nursing team in Greensboro, North Carolina, and provide high-quality care to adult patients requiring close cardiac and clinical monitoring in a 34-bed medical progressive care unit. This travel nurse assignment offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse to work in a welcoming city with convenient amenities, parks, cultural attractions, and easy access to the wider Piedmont Triad region.

  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week
  • Shift Duration: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • Weekly Hours: 36
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,820–$1,910
  • Unit Setting: Adult medical progressive care with cardiac telemetry monitoring and a typical patient ratio of 1:5
  • Call: No call required
  • Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Rotation required
  • Orientation: 36 hours
  • Floating: May be required to support other locations within the health system as needed

Progressive Care Registered Nurse Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of submission
  • At least 2 years of recent PCU, stepdown, intermediate care, or comparable progressive care nursing experience
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome with the required clinical experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Recent experience with cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation, and dysrhythmia management
  • Epic electronic medical record experience required
  • Demonstrated proficiency with cardiac and vasoactive drips, including titration as clinically indicated
  • Experience with PICC and peripheral line care, central line management, IV therapy, and telemetry monitoring
  • Ability to complete required compliance screening, education verification, and EKG assessment
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred

PCU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in a 34-bed medical progressive care unit
  • Care for patients with stroke-related conditions, renal and endocrine disorders, sepsis, gastrointestinal and hematological conditions, and other complex medical diagnoses
  • Continuously assess patients through cardiac telemetry and promptly identify changes in rhythm or clinical status
  • Interpret dysrhythmias and initiate appropriate nursing interventions in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Safely manage and titrate cardiac, vasoactive, insulin, and other critical care infusions according to orders and protocols
  • Perform peripheral and central line care, PICC line management, IV starts, blood product administration, and related vascular access responsibilities
  • Support patients requiring noninvasive airway management, oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, and chest tube management
  • Provide wound care, PCA management, isolation precautions, and other evidence-based interventions appropriate to the patient’s condition
  • Document accurately in Epic and collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation, radiology, rapid response, and other support services
  • Participate in weekend and holiday rotation and float as needed while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care
