Travel RN Job Details
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Location: Winston-Salem, North Carolina
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,850–$1,950
- Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour nights, approximately 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Unit: Neuro ICU caring for adult and geriatric patients
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:1, 2:1, or 3:1, based on patient acuity
- Weekend Requirement: Weekend coverage required, generally every other weekend based on unit needs
- Floating: May float to other ICUs and intermediate care units
- Scheduling: Based on unit needs; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Charting and Communication: Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR
- Scrubs: Navy blue, white, or a combination of both; not provided
Neuro ICU Travel Nurse Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a compact state; pending licensure may be considered for submission
- At least 2 years of recent Neuro ICU, neurocritical care, or comparable critical care nursing experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not eligible for this assignment
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Strong experience with stroke management, seizure management, traumatic brain injury, ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgical care
- Proficiency with ventilator management, arterial lines, central lines, dysrhythmia interpretation, ABGs, continuous sedation, and vasoactive and cardiac medication titration
- Experience managing EVDs, lumbar drains, hypothermia or temperature-management protocols, and invasive monitoring equipment
- Must successfully complete specialty EKG testing before the assignment begins
- Must be comfortable floating within critical care and intermediate care areas
- Must be available to work required holiday coverage and comply with pre-approved time-off guidelines
Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult and geriatric neuroscience patients
- Assess and monitor patients with acute stroke, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, post-neurosurgical conditions, and other complex neurological diagnoses
- Manage ICP monitoring, EVDs, lumbar drains, ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, and other critical care equipment
- Titrate vasoactive, cardiac, sedative, insulin, and other continuous intravenous therapies according to patient condition and established protocols
- Recognize and respond to changes in neurological status, hemodynamics, respiratory function, and cardiac rhythm
- Administer blood products, medications, procedural sedation, and temperature-management therapies safely
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation services, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans accurately in Epic
- Support safe patient transitions, participate in handoffs using SBAR, and float to other appropriate units when needed
