Travel Nurse Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
  • Employment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
  • Location: Waukesha, Wisconsin
  • Start Date: October 20, 2026; an alternate November 3 start may be available
  • Nursing Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend and Holiday Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Unit: 31-bed cardiac stepdown and intermediate-care unit
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4–5, based on assignment and census
  • Electronic Medical Record: Current Epic experience within the past 12 months
  • Floating: May float to appropriate units or affiliated facilities based on census and demonstrated clinical competency

Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse Requirements

  • Active Wisconsin or Compact Registered Nurse license
  • At least 1 year of cardiac nursing experience in a short-term acute-care hospital
  • Two or more years of medical-surgical nursing experience preferred
  • Previous completion of at least one travel nursing contract preferred
  • Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Strong cardiac assessment skills, including cardiac rhythm interpretation and recognition of clinical deterioration
  • Associate degree or nursing certificate required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Ability to care for patients with cardiovascular, medical, and intermediate-care needs while maintaining safe patient ratios
  • Adaptable, dependable, resilient, and comfortable working in a changing clinical environment
  • Compliance with applicable vaccination requirements, with exemptions considered where permitted

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, chest pain, hypertension, and post-cardiac procedures
  • Care for patients following open-heart and thoracic surgery, pacemaker placement, ablation, TAVR, and cardiac catheterization procedures
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms, perform focused nursing assessments, identify changes in condition, and escalate concerns promptly
  • Care for additional intermediate-care patients with sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, and medical overflow needs
  • Administer medications and treatments, coordinate interdisciplinary care, and educate patients and families
  • Document accurately and efficiently in Epic
  • Collaborate with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team to support safe transitions and positive patient outcomes
  • Float to appropriate clinical areas or affiliated facilities when needed while practicing within verified skills and competencies
  • Participate in scheduled weekend and holiday rotations
