• Typical Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Unit Profile: 39-bed medical-surgical unit with an average daily census of approximately 30 patients
• Orientation: 36 hours; orientations are offered biweekly

Travel RN Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent medical-surgical/telemetry nursing experience
• Current Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a Compact RN license in hand
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• NIHSS certification or stroke certification
• Epic charting experience
• Demonstrated telemetry knowledge, including cardiac rhythm interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with a patient assignment of approximately 1:6
• Ability to successfully complete an onsite EKG/telemetry assessment
• Flu vaccination is required; exemptions and declinations are not accepted
• Previous charge nurse experience is preferred

Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric medical-surgical and telemetry patients.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, identify changes in patient condition, and respond appropriately to dysrhythmias.
• Care for patients with conditions including myocardial infarction, acute kidney injury, renal failure, pneumonia, cellulitis, chest pain, orthopedic conditions, and postoperative bariatric or thoracic surgery needs.
• Manage central lines, PICC lines, ports, peripheral IVs, chest tubes, surgical drains, feeding tubes, tracheostomies, wound care, and wound vacs.
• Administer blood products, insulin, heparin, oxygen therapy, and other treatments according to orders and clinical protocols.
• Provide pre- and post-procedure care for cardiac catheterization, angiography, hemodialysis, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, and other complex interventions.
• Use evidence-based practices for fall prevention, isolation precautions, pain management, respiratory support, and safe patient mobility.
• Collaborate with respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, phlebotomy, rapid response teams, and other members of the care team.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Epic.
