NICU Travel Nursing Job Details
- Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (NICU RN)
- Healthcare Setting: Level III NICU within an acute care, Level I trauma environment
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250–$2,370
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- Contract: 13 weeks, through January 25, 2027
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour day shifts, generally 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling and block scheduling options available
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend for day shift; night-shift weekend needs vary
- Call: No current call requirement
- Orientation: Approximately 1–2 days of unit-specific orientation
- Documentation: Epic
NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois, or confirmation that the Illinois licensure process has been initiated
- At least 1 year of professional Registered Nurse experience; Level III or Level IV NICU experience is preferred
- Experience caring for premature infants and micro-preemies is preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Ability to provide safe, compassionate care in a high-acuity neonatal intensive care environment
- Willingness to float to other pediatric or approved support areas as needed
NICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for neonates from approximately 22 weeks gestation and older, including infants with complex congenital and respiratory conditions
- Care for patients with abdominal defects, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, genetic conditions, and pre-cardiac repair needs
- Monitor and manage patients receiving conventional ventilation, oscillator and jet ventilation, CPAP, nasal IMV, heated high-flow therapy, and tracheostomy care
- Titrate medications and continuous infusions, including fentanyl, morphine, and Precedex, according to provider orders and unit protocols
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate clinical findings to neonatologists, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and the broader care team
- Collaborate with a 24/7 in-house neonatology team, advanced practice providers, residents, fellows, charge nurses, and transport staff
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in Epic
- Support family-centered care, patient safety, quality standards, and evidence-based neonatal nursing practices
