- Healthcare Setting: Rural medical-surgical department serving patients across a broad range of ages and acuities
Med-Surg Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Utah or a compact state
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- At least 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications, or ability to obtain them as required
- Willingness to obtain Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification as required
- Knowledge of infection prevention, patient safety practices, and medication and treatment precautions
- Strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking, communication, and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in rapidly changing or stressful situations
- Commitment to reliable attendance, patient confidentiality, and compassionate patient care
Medical-Surgical Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect nursing care to medical-surgical patients across a wide range of ages, diagnoses, and acuities
- Care for postpartum and newborn patients, adult medical and surgical patients, pediatric patients, rehabilitation patients, and skilled-care patients as assigned
- Complete patient assessments, develop and implement individualized nursing care plans, administer treatments, and evaluate patient outcomes
- Recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly using sound clinical judgment
- Apply infection-control principles and patient-safety techniques throughout each shift
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, ancillary departments, patients, and families
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and communicate pertinent patient information during handoffs
- Support opportunities to expand clinical skills in postpartum care, infusion therapy, wound care, emergency services, or post-anesthesia care as appropriate
- Perform other nursing duties consistent with the needs of the department and the assignment
