Experienced Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurses (PCU RNs) are invited to join a cardiac stepdown travel nursing assignment in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Provide high-quality care to adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiovascular conditions while working night shifts with strong interdisciplinary support. This 13-week PCU travel nurse contract offers the opportunity to expand your acute-care and cardiac nursing experience in a collaborative progressive care environment. - Healthcare Setting: 55-bed cardiac stepdown and progressive care unit with a significant cardiovascular patient population
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,700–$1,790
- Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour night shifts
- Shift Hours: 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours, with an option to work 48 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Rotating weekends as needed
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4–5
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients, including those with CHF, STEMI, NSTEMI, and other cardiovascular conditions
- Electronic Medical Record: Epic charting
- Floating: May float to comparable units within the nurse’s scope of practice based on operational needs
- Call: None
PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in New Mexico; a pending New Mexico or compact license may be considered if obtained before the start date
- At least 1 year of recent PCU, progressive care, stepdown, or comparable acute-care nursing experience required; 2 years preferred
- Previous cardiovascular or cardiac nursing experience required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- CPI certification preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency with cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy, central and PICC line care, and cardiac monitoring
- Experience with cardiac drips, heparin protocols, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, chest tubes, blood product administration, and post-cardiac procedure care preferred
- Ability to work independently, collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, and adapt to changing patient-care needs
PCU RN Travel Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a 55-bed progressive care and cardiac stepdown unit
- Assess, monitor, and manage patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions, including CHF and post-myocardial infarction patients
- Interpret cardiac rhythms and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications and manage cardiac therapies according to established protocols
- Monitor patients before and after cardiac catheterization, angiography, surgery, and other procedures
- Manage central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, chest tubes, feeding tubes, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive airway support
- Perform ongoing assessments, medication administration, patient education, care planning, and accurate documentation in Epic
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams
- Maintain patient safety, infection prevention, and isolation precautions
- Float to comparable units when needed and provide safe, effective care within the RN’s scope of practice
