This travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to care for a diverse adult patient population with approximately 4:1 nurse-to-patient ratios, strong interdisciplinary support, and exposure to cardiac, neurological, respiratory, renal, and surgical cases.

- End Date: January 25, 2027
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890–$1,990
- Schedule: Four 12-hour day shifts per week, approximately 6:45 a.m.–7:15 p.m.
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
- On-Call: Not required
- Patient Population: Adults
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Unit Environment: 38-bed intermediate care unit with a daily census of approximately 34 patients and a high volume of patient throughput
- Charting: Cerner experience preferred
- Floating: Required within the nurse’s scope of practice to support operational needs
Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of submission
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in cardiac telemetry, PCU, IMC, DOU, neuro stepdown, or a comparable acute-care setting
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- ACLS certification preferred
- Strong cardiac monitoring skills, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response or code teams
- Experience caring for patients before and after cardiac catheterization, cardiac surgery, myocardial infarction, angiography, and sheath removal, including TR Band management
- Proficiency with telemetry, central and arterial lines, PICC lines, ports, blood products, phlebotomy, peripheral IVs, and IV starts
- Ability to care for patients requiring tracheostomies with ventilators, chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and other noninvasive airway support
- Experience with renal failure, hemodialysis management, feeding tubes, wound care, surgical drains, neurological cases, and orthopedic or trauma patients
- Level I trauma, teaching hospital, and Cerner experience preferred
Cardiac Stepdown Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in a high-acuity cardiac stepdown and intermediate care environment.
- Monitor telemetry and recognize, report, and respond to changes in cardiac rhythm and patient condition.
- Manage patients following cardiac catheterization, cardiac surgery, myocardial infarction, angiography, and other complex procedures.
- Administer medications and manage cardiac or vasoactive infusions according to established protocols and scope of practice.
- Perform assessments, medication administration, IV therapy, central-line care, arterial-line management, blood product administration, and procedural sedation monitoring as indicated.
- Provide respiratory support, including care of ventilated and tracheostomy patients, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, and ABG interpretation.
- Care for patients with neurological, renal, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, surgical, and trauma-related conditions.
- Use rapid response resources and escalate changes in condition promptly.
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, phlebotomy, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
- Float within scope as needed while maintaining professional standards, accurate documentation, infection prevention, and patient-centered care.
