Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
- Location: Fairfield, Illinois
- Healthcare Setting: 29-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown
- Start Date: October 19, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour night shifts
- Weekend/Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients, including stroke, heart failure, TIA, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, and medical-surgical cases
- Additional Expectations: Travelers should be prepared to meet unit call and floating requirements
- Local Candidate Policy: Candidates residing within 50 miles of the assignment location are not eligible
Travel PCU Registered Nurse Requirements
- At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience
- Current RN license in the state of practice or eligibility through a compact license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Progressive care, stepdown, acute care, or critical care nursing experience
- At least 6 months of acute-care hospital experience preferred
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, temporary pacing, and advanced respiratory modalities preferred
- Experience with Epic electronic health records preferred
- CCRN or PCCN certification is preferred
- Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to safe, compassionate patient care
PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments of PCU and stepdown patients.
- Develop, prioritize, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care using the nursing process.
- Administer medications safely and monitor patients for treatment effectiveness and potential complications.
- Care for patients with complex conditions, including stroke, heart failure, TIA, multisystem illness, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, and medical-surgical diagnoses.
- Perform and document neurological assessments, including NIHSS evaluations when indicated.
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic status, cardiac drips, respiratory status, and changing patient conditions.
- Provide care for patients requiring full-face BiPAP, chest tubes, transvenous or temporary pacing, and conscious sedation support within scope and unit protocols.
- Recognize and respond promptly to clinical deterioration and rapidly changing patient needs.
- Administer patient and family education and support patients and caregivers in coping with illness and treatment.
- Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, care coordinators, and support services to promote continuity of care.
- Advocate for patient safety, privacy, dignity, cultural needs, and informed care preferences.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and follow applicable policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
