Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Position: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
  • Location: Winfield, Illinois, in the greater Chicago area
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020–$2,130
  • Contract Type: Travel nursing contract
  • Contract Duration: 12 weeks, with an anticipated assignment period from November 9, 2026, through February 1, 2027
  • Schedule: Four 12-hour night shifts per week
  • Shift: Nights, approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Weekend coverage is required
  • Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
  • Typical Ratios: Approximately 4 patients per nurse on days and 5 patients per nurse on nights and weekends
  • Orientation: Approximately 12 hours

PCU Travel RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois, held in hand; pending or emergency licenses are not accepted
  • At least 1 year of direct registered nursing experience; 2 years of acute-care, progressive care, or telemetry nursing experience is preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Progressive care unit and telemetry experience
  • Ability to float across multiple adult acute-care units and overflow areas as needed
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Submission materials must include a completed skills checklist and two professional references, including one from a supervisor, manager, or charge RN within the past year

Progressive Care Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a progressive care environment
  • Monitor telemetry and recognize changes in cardiac rhythm or patient condition
  • Complete focused and comprehensive assessments, develop individualized care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes
  • Administer medications and treatments while following clinical protocols and patient safety standards
  • Recognize clinical deterioration and promptly communicate concerns to providers and the interdisciplinary care team
  • Coordinate care with respiratory services, pharmacy, rehabilitation, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other support departments
  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and responses in the electronic medical record
  • Provide patient and family education to support recovery, discharge planning, and continuity of care
  • Float to designated units and overflow areas while maintaining high standards of care and professionalism
  • Participate in orientation, required learning modules, and unit-based quality and safety initiatives
