Pediatric Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift Travel Nurse Contract in Seattle, WA

Travel RN Job Details

  • Location: Seattle, WA 98105
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,770–$1,870
  • Assignment Type: 13-week pediatric behavioral health travel nursing contract
  • Start Date: November 2, 2026
  • End Date: February 1, 2027
  • Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour night shifts from approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., typically 3 shifts per week. A 4-shift schedule may be available.
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
  • Patient Population: Children and adolescents ages 4–17 in an acute psychiatric crisis setting
  • Typical Assignment: Approximately 1:6, with potential 1:1 assignments or milieu support responsibilities based on patient needs
  • Electronic Documentation: Epic experience preferred
  • Orientation: 112 hours

Pediatric Psychiatric RN Job Requirements

  • At least 2 years of pediatric psychiatric or behavioral health nursing experience
  • Current Registered Nurse license in Washington State or a valid compact RN license by the start date
  • Candidates with a pending Washington license must be willing to apply upon offer and obtain the required license or temporary authorization by the start date
  • Current BLS and PALS certification
  • Strong therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and behavioral de-escalation skills
  • Comfort managing disruptive behaviors using least-restrictive interventions, with the ability to perform physical holds, mechanical restraint, and seclusion when clinically indicated and authorized by policy
  • Ability to care for patients with medical comorbidities such as diabetes, epilepsy, eating disorders requiring refeeding, and self-injurious behaviors
  • Experience with medication administration, blood glucose monitoring, wound care, and NG tube management is valuable
  • CPI, PEARS, QBS-Safety Care, or comparable crisis safety certification is preferred

Pediatric Behavioral Health RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate nursing care to pediatric and adolescent behavioral health patients
  • Assess patients experiencing depression, anxiety, psychosis, mania, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, self-injurious behaviors, and other psychiatric or behavioral conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized nursing interventions while monitoring changes in mood, behavior, safety risk, and clinical condition
  • Prioritize prevention, therapeutic engagement, and verbal de-escalation during behavioral health crises
  • Initiate and perform approved physical holds, mechanical restraint, or seclusion procedures when safety criteria are met, and provide appropriate monitoring and documentation
  • Administer medications and provide medical care for chronic or acute conditions, including diabetes management, seizure-related needs, refeeding support, cast care, and wound care
  • Complete safety checks, support low-stimulation care, and provide 1:1 monitoring or resource nursing support as assigned
  • Collaborate with mental health specialists and the interdisciplinary care team to support structured milieu programming and patient safety
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, medication administration, and patient responses in Epic
  • Float within scope or participate in on-call coverage when needed to support patient and unit needs
