This 14-week travel assignment supports approximately 40 surgical cases per day across a diverse patient population. Work alongside an experienced interdisciplinary surgical team while gaining valuable experience in trauma, general surgery, and multiple specialty procedures. Travel RN Job Details
- Location: Baltimore, Maryland
- Position Type: Travel contract
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,960–$2,070
- Start Date: November 9, 2026
- Duration: 14 weeks, ending February 15, 2027
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Saturday and Sunday coverage is required; block scheduling may be accommodated
- Call Requirement: One call shift per week
- Patient Ratio: 1:1 in the OR
- Charting System: Cerner/SurgiNet
- Orientation: 16 hours, with virtual specialty modules completed at the start of the assignment
- Local Candidates: Accepted
Operating Room RN Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license in Maryland or a valid compact-state RN license at the time of submission
- At least 2 years of recent Operating Room or perioperative nursing experience
- General OR and trauma experience required
- Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma and teaching hospital experience preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Completion of a 16-hour Maryland-approved trauma course
- Completion of 8 hours of annual trauma continuing education
- Preferred certifications include ACLS, NIH, and PALS
- Proficiency with thoracic, ENT, colorectal, plastics, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, oral/dental, laparoscopic, urology, ophthalmology, gynecology, general surgery, orthopedic, robotic, vascular, and trauma procedures
- Experience with emergency OR response, fire safety, malignant hyperthermia, and latex allergy precautions
- Experience using electrosurgical units, fiber-optic equipment, and Steris equipment
- Ability to float within scope of practice to support operational needs
- Travel experience is not required; qualified first-time travel nurses are welcome to apply
Operating Room Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide safe, age-appropriate perioperative nursing care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
- Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary surgical team and support patient care from preoperative preparation through postoperative transition
- Circulate and support surgical procedures across a broad range of specialties, including trauma, thoracic, ENT, general, vascular, orthopedic, neurological, gynecological, urological, ophthalmic, colorectal, robotic, and minimally invasive cases
- Prepare operating rooms, equipment, supplies, and surgical instrumentation according to procedure-specific requirements
- Promote patient safety through accurate patient identification, positioning, surgical site verification, specimen handling, and infection prevention practices
- Respond appropriately to emergency OR situations and apply fire safety, malignant hyperthermia, and latex allergy protocols
- Document perioperative care accurately in Cerner/SurgiNet
- Educate and support patients and families while serving as a clinical resource to the care team
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists, and other departments to promote efficient, high-quality surgical care
- Float to like units or nearby affiliated locations, within scope of practice, as needed
