PCU Travel Nurse Job Details

• Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), stepdown nursing
• Location: Canton, Ohio
• Contract: 13-week travel nursing assignment
• Assignment Dates: November 9, 2026 – February 6, 2027
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,730–$1,820
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
• Weekend and Holiday Rotation: Every third weekend and every other holiday
• Patient Population: Neurosurgery, general surgery, trauma, intracranial hemorrhage, diabetic ketoacidosis, altered mental status, sepsis, cancer, and other complex conditions
• Unit Profile: 24 beds with an average daily census of 21–22 patients and a typical 5:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Scheduling: Schedules are arranged in 8-week increments and posted approximately 2 weeks in advance
• Floating: May float to stepdown units at the same level of care, with notification at the beginning of the shift
• Call Requirement: None
• Documentation: Cerner electronic health record (EHR)

PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license or compact RN license
• At least 2 years of recent PCU, progressive care, stepdown, or closely related acute-care nursing experience
• Associate degree or nursing certificate as required for the assignment
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Valid driver's license
• Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, communication, and patient-safety skills
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and participate in the required weekend and holiday rotation

Progressive Care RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care for high-acuity PCU and stepdown patients throughout the night shift
• Perform thorough neurological assessments and promptly identify changes in patient condition
• Care for patients recovering from elective neurosurgery, trauma, and general surgical procedures
• Monitor and manage patients with intracranial hemorrhage, sepsis, DKA, altered mental status, cancer, and other complex diagnoses
• Manage cardiac and other critical-care infusions, including amiodarone, dobutamine, heparin, furosemide, and insulin drips
• Provide NG tube care, tube feeding and TPN management, BiPAP and Airvo support, chest tube care, drain care, and wound-vac management
• Administer medications, complete accurate documentation in Cerner, and coordinate multidisciplinary care
• Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapy, IV services, patient care technicians, transport, case management, and discharge teams
• Float to comparable stepdown units as needed while maintaining safe, evidence-based care
