Description
- Schedule: 5 x 8-hour shifts (07:30-16:00); variable weekends; no set/blocked scheduling; self-scheduling requests accommodated.
- Patient Care: Provide care for patients with hematologic malignancies (multiple myeloma, chronic leukemia, lymphoma), including pre/post BMT/CART transplant.
- Core Clinical Skills: Perform peripheral and line blood draws, place peripheral IVs, access ports/PICC lines, conduct EKGs, administer injections/immunizations, and perform line dressings.
- Special Procedures: Administer chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics; manage oncologic emergencies (tumor lysis syndrome, cytokine release syndrome), insulin and heparin drips.
- Certifications/Skills: BLS required; skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line management, starting IVs.
- Unit Focus: Adhere to infection prevention protocols and patient fall precautions; staffing ratios target 1:4 (may be 1:5).
- Orientation: First week—Mon-Fri day shift orientation; second week—36 hours of on-unit precepted orientation.
- Charting: Use of EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Experience: Oncology experience preferred but not required.
