RN - MedSurg/Tele ● About Facility: o 1 Medical Center Blvd. Winston-Salem, NC 27103 o 885 licensed beds o Level 1 Trauma Designation o Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center o Chest Pain Center o Stroke Center ● Unit Information: o Beds: 20 beds total, 10 in 5A and 10 in 5B o Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years of MedSurg experience o Will you accept a first-time traveler? No ● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: o Transitional Care Unit o General MedSurg: CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory issues, CIWA patients, infections, wounds, etc. o Mostly medical patients seen on this unit, but any service line can admit, so could see some general surgeries and other patients ● Patient Ratios: o 1:5 ● Required License, National Certification, Certs: o BLS, ACLS ● Skills required: o Trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation (will check off on strips during shift), central line blood draws o Non-titrating Drips (required): Heparin, Lasix, Protonix o Non-titrating Drips (preferred): Cardizem, Amiodarone (please note in offer if they have this experience. Can teach here if no experience) ● Support within the Department: o 1 CNA for 5A, 1 CNA for 5B o 1 Charge to cover both areas, could take patients if needed o Receptionist/HUC? No o Phlebotomy 24/7 – RNs could collect labs as well o RT 24/7 o Hospitalist 24/7 o Residents 24/7 o Telemetry monitoring/tech? Bedside monitors w/ central monitor at nurses’ station ● Technology/Equipment: o EMR: EPIC o IV Pump: Alaris o Med dispensing: Omnicell ● Floating: If yes, where? o Could float within scope of practice at hospital ● Orientation (facility and unit): o NEO o 2 shifts on unit to orient ● Scheduling: o Weekend rotation: Every other o On call? No o Holiday Expectations: 50% of holidays in contract o Approval of RTO: ok to approve up to 7 days o Shift times: 1830-0700 o Schedule cycle: Scheduler will make schedule 6-week increments. Travelers will be plugged into holes in the schedule ▪ Do not allow traveler overtime unless approved through upper leadership (not common) ● Other notes: o Scrub Color: Royal Blue o Parking: Free
