    Description

    RN - PCU ● About Facility: o This is a new unit that will open 2/17/2026 o Will initially open at 50% capacity and grow from there o Address: Cornelius - 1130 Tree of Life Lane, Cornelius, NC 28031 o 33 Beds o No Trauma Designation o Not a Teaching Hospital o Not a Chest Pain Center o Not currently Stroke accredited o Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit ● Unit Information: o Beds: 12 o Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years PCU experience o Will you accept a first-time traveler? If more than 5 years PCU experience, will accept a first-time traveler. Otherwise, no. ● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: o Adults o Medical based PCU - CHF, COPD, established vents and trachs, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, CIWA, patients receiving dialysis, diabetic patients with insulin drips, etc. ● Patient Ratios: o 1:4 ● Required License, National Certification, Certs: o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS ● Skills required: o General nursing skills - IV starts, wound care/dressing changes/wound vacs/drains (there is not always a Wound Care RN available so must be comfortable with these), central lines (dressing changes, drawing blood), NG tube insertion, tube feeds, PCA pumps, kangaroo pumps, cardiac rhythm interpretation, etc. o There is no phlebotomy so must be comfortable performing lab draws o Drips: must be comfortable titrating Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, insulin (with Endotool). o Could see vented patients but experience not required. MUST be willing to be taught here though. The same goes for Precedex drips. Please include in offer if they have experience with these. o EPIC experience required ● Support within the Department: o 3 CNAs, 1 performing HUC duties o Charge nurse - yes, free floating o No phlebotomy o IV/VAT: no o Wound Care RN: no o RT 24/7 o Hospitalist 24/7 - on call at night o Intensivist 24/7 - not available at night o Anesthesia available 24/7 and can assist with intubations o No tele tech, must be comfortable monitoring own patients. Monitors available in each room ● Technology/Equipment: o EMR: EPIC - required o IV Pump: Alaris o Med dispensing: Omnicell ● Floating: If yes, where? o Travelers will be first to float. Could float within scope of practice and below. 1:4 ratio if floating to MedSurg here. o Will be required to float per Region needs - will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice - DECLINE if not agreeable ▪ Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, any Freestanding ED within Region, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH) ▪ If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock) ● Orientation (facility and unit): o NEO o 1-2 shifts on the unit, depending on comfort level ● Scheduling: o Weekend rotation: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule, could be more though if needed by the department. o On call? No o Holiday Expectations: 75% of holidays in contract o Approval of RTO: can approve up to 7 days, manager approval for more or surrounding holidays o Shift times: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700 o Schedule cycle: 6-week schedule, self-scheduling with manager approval. ● Other notes: o Scrub Color: Navy blue o Parking: Free o Unit Culture:
