Job Summary

The PACU Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical and diagnostic procedures. The RN is responsible for close monitoring, assessment, stabilization, pain and nausea management, and safe transfer or discharge of patients from the post-anesthesia care environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and continuously monitor patients recovering from general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care.

• Monitor vital signs, airway, respiratory status, cardiac rhythm, level of consciousness, and neurological status.

• Recognize and promptly respond to post-anesthesia complications and changes in patient condition.

• Manage postoperative pain, nausea/vomiting, and other common recovery symptoms according to orders and protocols.

• Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and other treatments within RN scope of practice.

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

• Current BLS certification.

• Current ACLS certification.

• PALS certification may be required depending on the patient population and facility requirements.

• Previous acute-care or perioperative nursing experience preferred.
