Job Summary

Responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients across the perioperative continuum. Performs pre-admission testing, patient assessments, education, documentation, and coordination of care while ensuring patient safety and adherence to clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform systematic, comprehensive, and accurate patient assessments across the lifespan, from pediatric to geriatric populations.
• Provide competent direct patient care based on the patient's condition, diagnosis, procedure, and type of anesthesia.
• Demonstrate knowledge and appropriate use of emergency equipment and procedures.
• Maintain complete and accurate nursing documentation, including patient assessments, education, interventions, and progress toward expected outcomes.
• Follow professional nursing standards, hospital policies, procedures, and applicable patient-safety guidelines.
• Provide professional, courteous, and patient-centered care while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
• Follow National Patient Safety Goals, Universal Protocol, and two-patient-identifier requirements.
• Demonstrate knowledge of surgical conditions, diagnoses, procedures, and equipment encountered in perioperative care.
• Perform pre-operative and post-operative assessments and provide appropriate patient and family education regarding surgical procedures and instructions.
• Support Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) by completing required testing in a timely manner and evaluating PAT orders for appropriateness and potential omissions based on the planned surgery, patient age, and current health status.
• Prioritize patient care based on acuity, changing clinical conditions, and perioperative needs.
• Collaborate with the perioperative team to ensure continuity of care throughout the surgical process.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in Critical Care, Cardiac, or Emergency Department nursing
• Active RN License – Required
• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required
• PALS – Required for Pediatric ER only
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
