Job Summary (List Format):
Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Laboratory Scientist

- Obtain, receive, process, analyze, and report accurate laboratory specimen results.
- Perform laboratory testing in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Blood Gas, and Phlebotomy.
- Identify and refer abnormal or critical test results to the Pathologist.
- Perform and document quality control procedures and adhere to quality assurance guidelines.
- Screen laboratory tests for medical necessity and follow reference laboratory protocols.
- Follow drug screening and breath alcohol testing (BAT) protocols as required.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain laboratory equipment according to safety and operational guidelines.
- Demonstrate competency in phlebotomy for patients of all age groups, from neonatal to geriatric.
- Maintain compliance with infection control, universal precautions, and safety regulations.
- Adhere to hospital policies and regulatory requirements (IDPH, OSHA, CMS, HIPAA, DHHS).
- Complete required continuing education, attend in-services and staff meetings, and stay updated with departmental communications.
- Adapt to changing workloads and complete patient care duties within scheduled shifts.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with patients, families, providers, and team members.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards at all times.
- Promote teamwork, support organizational values, and participate in quality and culture initiatives.
- Represent the organization positively and professionally.
