Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery to provide care in a high-risk, high-volume L&D environment. Candidates must be comfortable working in fast-paced, high-acuity settings and caring for a wide range of maternal and newborn patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for high-risk and routine Labor & Delivery patients.
• Manage patients with conditions requiring Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
• Perform and interpret electronic fetal monitoring.
• Function as the Baby Nurse during deliveries and continue newborn care until transfer to postpartum — hard-stop requirement.
• Provide newborn care, including:
  • Newborn assessments
  • Eye prophylaxis
  • Vitamin K injections to the thighs
• Circulate in C-sections/OR procedures — hard-stop requirement.
• Float to Postpartum/Antepartum units as needed.
• May float to sister facilities that provide Mother/Baby services.
• Follow AWHONN staffing and practice guidelines.
• Provide care to a diverse patient population, including midwifery clients, private OB patients, Adult Recovery Services/substance recovery patients, and community care clinic patients.

Unit Details

• High-Risk / High-Volume L&D
• 31 Rooms / 31 Beds
• 4 Operating Rooms
• Average Daily Census: ~15 patients/day
• Approximately 500–600 deliveries/month
• Schedule is posted every 6 weeks based on unit needs.
• Every other weekend and holidays as needed.
• Pre-approved time off is reviewed case by case.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 1 year of L&D experience
• High-risk L&D experience – Required
• Experience working in fast-paced, high-acuity environments
• EPIC experience – Hard Stop
• Electronic fetal monitoring experience
• Ability to circulate in the OR/C-sections – Hard Stop
• Ability to function as Baby Nurse during delivery – Hard Stop
• Newborn care experience, including assessments, eye prophylaxis, and Vitamin K administration
• Experience with Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate

Certifications

Required:

• AHA BLS
• NRP

Scheduling / Floating

• Every other weekend
• Holidays as needed
• Float required to Postpartum / Antepartum
• May float to sister Mother/Baby facilities
• Time-off requests are reviewed case by case
