Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Fast-paced, high-acuity labor and delivery unit with over 300 births per month.
- Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence.
- Average patient load includes 20 births in 24 hours, 30-40 admissions, 40 visits per day, and 20 rooms.
- Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, as well as high-risk patients under 16 weeks.
- Procedures performed include scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage.
- Unit uses PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR systems.
- Orientation duration: 24 hours.
- Scrubs provided (blue).
Shift Details
- Night shift: 18:45 to 07:15 (12-hour shifts)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
- Float requirement: Float as needed on a special maternity care high-risk OB unit.
- No call requirement.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Experience circulating in the OR
- Competent in performing sterile vaginal exams
Important Notes
- Return to Office (RTO) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Excessive call-offs or RTO may result in cancellation or Do Not Rehire status.
- Due to the unit’s fast pace and acuity, 48-hour contracts are generally not realistic.
- Strongly prefer RNs with experience circulating in the OR.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned.
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required and updated annually.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (including facility-specific declination if titer negative/equivocal). Declinations generally not accepted except for Hep B with facility form.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required. Exemptions require mask wearing on campus.
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of start.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and hospital policies acknowledgment.
- Completion of Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for NC travel candidates).
- Completion of annual compliance training and medication safety module.
- Corp ID setup and I-Learn login required prior to start.
- Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire).
- Various state-specific registry and exclusion searches required within 90 days prior to start.
References and History
- Two professional references within three years required for travel and acute care positions.
- Performance evaluation required if worked with the agency over one year.
- Employment application must be uploaded.
This position is suited for experienced labor and delivery RNs comfortable in a high-volume, challenging environment with strong clinical skills and certifications.
