Registered Nurse – Oncology Clinic (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5x8 hours)
Patient Population: Adult benign hematology (bleeding disorders, hemophilia, anemias, sickle cell, DVTs) – no malignant hematology or oncology patients
Job Description
- Work in an outpatient classical hematology clinic focusing on non-malignant hematology conditions.
- Responsibilities include rooming patients, phlebotomy, central line care, assisting with bone marrow biopsies, vaccinations, EKGs, phone triage, scheduling for infusions, patient education, phone calls, and case management.
- Manual differentials are performed by lab personnel, not RNs.
- No chemotherapy or infusion administration in this clinic.
- Average daily census: ~70 patients.
- No call, float, or weekend requirements.
- Clinic closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, and Martin Luther King Day.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Phlebotomy skills are mandatory
- Experience with central line care and assistance with bone marrow biopsies
- Case management experience
- EPIC system experience required (EPIC Acute Activation User)
- Must bring own stethoscope
- Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers accepted
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology clinic experience preferred.
- Certifications such as ONS, BMTCN, or OCN are a plus.
Orientation & Equipment
- Unit orientation: 24 hours.
- Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided).
- RNs must bring their own stethoscope.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, and education verification required.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required.
- Immunizations/titers required for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required.
- Required facility-specific documents include confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, medication safety training, and annual compliance training.
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for NC travel candidates).
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel/per diem acute care RNs.
- Employment application and skills checklist must be uploaded.
Additional Notes
- No call-offs or additional RTO (release time off) allowed after booking; violations may lead to cancellation.
- Interview with manager required prior to offer.
- Candidate photo (passport style, white background) required immediately after signing for badge creation.
- Candidates must complete Corp ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving instructions to avoid start delays.
