Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cartersville, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 10 weeks


Unit & Job Details

  • Position is for hospital float pool staff, expected to float across multiple units including:
    • Emergency Department (ED)
    • ER Hold
    • Medical Surgical
    • Telemetry
    • Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • This is a float pool position requiring flexibility; no block schedule requests allowed.
  • Weekend work every other weekend.
  • No on-call required.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling due to pool staffing needs.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
  • First-time travel nurses are accepted (prior travel experience not required).

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance with all credentialing and documentation required to start on time.
  • Orientation hours are non-billable and vary by contract length (e.g., 10 hours for a 10-week assignment).
  • Background check must be completed within 30 days prior to start; no pending background checks allowed.
  • Education verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
  • Physical exam required within 12 months prior to start.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable; no pending results allowed.
  • Annual NURSYS license verification required within 30 days prior to start.
  • TB testing (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months; if positive, additional documentation required. TB questionnaire required annually regardless of TB status.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer).
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly recommended but not mandatory.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31).

Work Expectations & Policies

  • Must work major holidays if they fall during the assignment:
    • Memorial Day
    • Independence Day
    • Labor Day
    • Thanksgiving/Black Friday
    • Christmas Eve/Christmas Day
    • New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day
  • If one major holiday occurs, traveler must work it; if two occur, must work both; if three occur, must work two of them.
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate as travelers.
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start.

References & Verification

  • Two clinical references required (agency requirement).
  • Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually.
