Job Opportunity: Cardiac Telemetry Registered Nurse

Location: Salisbury, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work on a fast-paced, busy cardiac and stroke unit with high patient turnover (78-90 patients weekly).
  • Patient care includes stable pre/post procedure cardiac patients (pacemaker implantation, ICDs, cardiac catheterization), stroke patients (CVA, TIA), and cardiac drips (Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone).
  • Unit includes a COVID-positive side with patients on opti-flow and chronic BIPAP (no new BIPAP initiation).
  • Target nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6; nurses must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients during surge.
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours per week.
  • Call requirement: Yes, frequency varies with patient census.
  • Float requirement: Yes.
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in a 6-week period.
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling allowed.
  • Orientation: 36 hours, must be available daily during the first week.
  • Strict attendance policy: Return to Office (RTO) after booking is not allowed beyond 7 days; excessive call-offs may lead to cancellation.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
  • Experience maintaining similar nurse-to-patient ratios and acuity in a high-acuity cardiac telemetry or related unit
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Traveler experience; first-time travelers accepted

Patient Diagnoses & Procedures

  • Stable pre/post pacemaker and ICD implantation care.
  • Cardiac catheterization and peripheral vascular interventions (without sheaths).
  • Stroke and TIA patients (new CVA, TIA).
  • Management of multiple cardiac drips (Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone).
  • Oxygen therapy including stable high flow O2, non-rebreather masks (palliative only), and chronic BIPAP use (no new BIPAP initiation).

Unit Equipment & Systems

  • Telemetry and pulse oximetry monitoring.
  • Pyxis medication system.
  • Documentation and communication via EPIC Dimensions and SBAR.

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • 13-week contract length.
  • Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each.
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling.
  • Must be comfortable with high patient turnover and fast-paced environment.
  • Uniform: Navy blue or white scrubs or a combination; jackets must match scrubs in material and color; no crocs with holes allowed.

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months required.
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months required.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive TB, physician-signed TB questionnaire required.
  • Immunizations: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if applicable).
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season; mask required if exempt.
  • Physical exam and references required per travel agency standards.
  • Must complete facility-specific orientation, education modules, and compliance training.
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport-style, white background, business attire).
  • Must complete Corporate ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials.

Additional Notes

  • Call-offs and additional RTO beyond policy may result in contract cancellation.
  • Weekend and holiday coverage required as specified.
  • Team lead available to assist with admissions and discharges.
  • COVID-positive patients present on unit; appropriate precautions required.

This position is ideal for experienced cardiac telemetry RNs comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with strong cardiac and stroke patient care skills. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
