Description
Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Night Shift)
Location: Dunn, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Emergency Room (ER)
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Weekly Hours: 36
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Must be able and willing to float between two campuses within the same health system
- Callouts: Makeup shifts required for any missed scheduled shifts as deemed necessary
- Locals: Not accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- First-time travelers accepted
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current certifications (must be renewed prior to start if expiring the month of start):
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check required within 6 months of start date, including:
- SSN Trace
- 7-year county residence history
- Nationwide search
- Sex offender search
- International search if lived/worked outside the U.S. in past 7 years
- Convictions within the last year or active cases will disqualify
- Education verification related to specialty required (high school diplomas not accepted)
- Physical exam within 1 year, signed by physician, NP, or PA-C, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- TDAP (within last 10 years, no declinations accepted)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative or equivocal)
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (specific substances tested)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season or approved medical/religious exemption (exemptions require facility approval and specific documentation)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but documentation accepted if available

- Type: Short-term acute care hospital
- Level III Trauma Center and Teaching Hospital
- Total staffed beds: 733
- Electronic charting system: Epic
- Scrub colors: Royal blue and white
Scheduling & Policies
- Guaranteed hours with a call-off policy allowing 2 shifts off per 13-week assignment; beyond that, contracted hours are guaranteed
- Return staff policy: Must be off assignment for 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Maximum of 2 contracts allowed before a 6-month break is required before returning
- Block scheduling may be accommodated
- On-call shifts are not required

- Photo for badge: Professional passport-style photo required without large earrings, face piercings, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings (unless religious)
- Mandatory annual training modules to be completed before start date
