Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- Acute care nursing on a Med/Surg and Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Day shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM), totaling 36 hours/week
- Contract duration accepted: 13-20 weeks
- No call requirement; floating to main campus (~32 minutes away) may be required
- Weekend work every other weekend
- Must be able to work holidays
- Rapid response and code team participation expected
- Assigned to Storm/Hurricane Team; may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs: Navy blue or white
Patient Population & Diagnoses
- Patients with diabetes, dementia, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, failure to thrive, and various surgical recoveries
Required Skills & Clinical Competencies
- Med/Surg and Med/Surg Telemetry nursing
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry remote monitoring
- Bowel obstruction care
- Colostomy/ileostomy management
- Feeding tube care
- Pre/post hemodialysis management
- Renal failure management
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws and peripheral line care
- Phlebotomy
- PICC line management
- IV therapy including starting and maintaining IVs, heparin, insulin, PCA
- Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
- BiPAP/CPAP and high flow nasal cannula management
- Non-invasive airway management and oral suctioning
- Oxygen administration and tank management
- Isolation precautions and PPE use
- Wound care including Wound Vac
Preferred Skills
- ACLS certification
- On-unit telemetry monitoring
- Post angiogram, cardiac surgery, and MI care
- IV insulin protocols
- Bariatric surgery care
- Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- Port access and management
- Stroke (CVA) care
- Substance withdrawal management
- Surgical drain care
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Pre/post thoracic surgery care
- Tracheostomy care
- Previous charge nurse experience
- Electronic documentation proficiency
- Community hospital experience
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Pre/post hemodialysis management
- Central line blood draws
- PICC line management
- Chest tube management
- BiPAP/CPAP management and maintenance
- Non-invasive airway management
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Self-scheduling model
- Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
- Floating to other units or main campus may be required
- No call, but weekend work every other weekend
- Rapid response and code team participation expected
- Storm/Hurricane team participation required during disasters
Additional Notes
- Return to work (RTO) maximum: 7 days
- Must submit required documentation including background checks, education verification, and required forms prior to start
- Must complete corporate ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials to avoid start delays
- Navy blue or white scrubs required
- Must be able to provide a passport-style photo on a white background for badge issuance
