Registered Nurse (RN) - Critical Care/ICU-CCU

Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Estimated Weekly Hours: 36 hours (possibility of overtime)
Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday rotation required; occasional on-call with 1-hour response time during low census periods


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Patient populations include adult cardiac/telemetry, stroke, vascular intervention, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Must self-study telemetry strips upon acceptance; a Basic Dysrhythmia test will be administered during the first week and must be passed to work in the CCU.
  • EPIC EMR experience within the last 12 months on a similar unit is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Iowa (Primary source verification required within 30 days of start)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Experience with EPIC EMR within the last 12 months on a similar unit
  • Valid Driver’s License

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted)
  • MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal
  • Influenza vaccine (optional, seasonal)
  • TB test: Negative test within past 2 years or documented history with clear chest x-ray and questionnaire
  • Fit test for approved respirators (completed prior to start)
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; declination accepted
  • Health statement/physician statement within last 12 months (updated every 4 years)
  • Color vision test within 1 year (must remain valid during assignment)

Background and Screening

  • Drug screen (9-panel, within 30 days of start; THC not required)
  • Background check within 30 days of start including SS trace and county search for last 7 years
  • Adult and Child Abuse clearance (state requirement)
  • Education verification through third party
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • References: 2 professional references required, including 1 supervisor
  • Driver’s license or state ID current and valid
  • Other compliance attestations and acknowledgments as required prior to onboarding

Additional Information

  • Traveler will not be part of a regular call rotation but may be called in occasionally during low census periods.
  • Must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called.
  • Completion of a skills checklist within 12 months is required.
  • Pre-orientation and Epic registration acknowledgment forms must be completed and uploaded.

This position requires a highly skilled RN with critical care experience, strong telemetry knowledge, and the ability to work night shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.
