Facility: SCDC Leath Correctional Institution
Location: Greenwood, SC 29649 (On-site)
Schedule: Days | 3x12s | Every other weekend
Hours/Week: 36
Duration: 13 weeks

Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to an incarcerated patient population in a correctional setting. The LPN supports safe, timely, and appropriate clinical care while maintaining strict adherence to facility security procedures and all applicable policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care within scope of practice (medication administration, treatments, vitals, basic assessments, wound care per protocol).
• Assist with patient intake screenings, ongoing monitoring, and documentation of health status changes.
• Support chronic care and sick call workflows as directed by RN/Provider.
• Maintain accurate, timely charting and medication/treatment documentation per facility standards.
• Respond to urgent medical situations and escalate appropriately to RN/Provider.
• Follow infection control standards and safety protocols at all times.
• Maintain professional boundaries and comply with all correctional security rules (movement, contraband, tool control, counts, etc.).
• Collaborate with custody staff and the healthcare team to ensure safe clinical operations.

Required Qualifications

• Active LPN license (state license or compact, as applicable).
• Current BLS (AHA preferred unless the facility specifies otherwise).
• Ability to work in a secure environment and follow all facility rules and procedures.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in corrections, behavioral health, detox, or other high-acuity / high-structure environments.
• Experience with medication pass and high-volume patient flow.
