Description
Start Date: March 2, 2026
Location: Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week; every other weekend required
Highlights:
- ICU stepdown unit managing post-rapid response patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, GI bleeds, and complex post-operative cases
- Strong critical care experience with arterial lines and vasoactive drip titration required – unit functions similarly to an ICU environment
- 3:1 or 4:1 nurse-to-patient ratios with 18–20 bed capacity
- Epic charting system and Pyxis medication management
- 13-week contract with up to 7 days of requested time off (excluding first week for orientation)
- Interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and more
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of progressive care or stepdown nursing experience
- Active NC or Compact RN license (must be in hand by start date)
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
- Proficiency in arterial line management, vasoactive drip titration, telemetry interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomy care, central line and PICC management, blood product administration, and high-flow nasal cannula
- Comfortable with IV starts, conscious sedation, isolation precautions, and Heparin/IV insulin protocols
- First-time travelers accepted; local candidates welcome
- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccination not required
