Description
Start Date: April 13, 2026
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15), 36 or 48 hours per week available. Minimum of 3 weekend shifts required every six weeks. Float requirements to other intermediate and critical care units as needed.
Highlights:
- Neuro-specialized intermediate care unit with 24-bed capacity and 1:3-4 patient ratios
- Diverse patient population including neurological and medical intermediate patients with complex needs
- Epic charting system with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
- Contract lengths available from 13 to 26 weeks with 32 hours of orientation including 8-hour computer training plus two on-unit shifts
- Work with advanced neurological conditions including CVA, traumatic brain injury, craniotomy, spinal cord injury, and post-neurosurgery patients
- Comprehensive critical care experience including cardiac monitoring, vasoactive drip titration, and ventilator management
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro Stepdown experience required; candidates with limited neuro experience will be screened
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
- Active North Carolina or Compact state RN license
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Scale
- Preferred certifications: CCRN, TNCC, CPI
- Epic charting system experience required
- Demonstrated competency in cardiac monitoring including dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, and use of rapid response/code teams
- Advanced IV therapy skills including blood product administration, central line management, PICC line management, and starting/maintaining peripheral IVs
- Proficiency in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips including Levophed, heparin protocols, PCA management, and thrombolytic agents
- Comprehensive neurological nursing skills including care of aneurysms, craniotomy patients, CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, post-TPA care, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, substance withdrawal, and traumatic brain injury
- Respiratory management including care of ventilated patients, chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care
- Experience with feeding tube management, continuous bladder irrigation, pre/post hemodialysis management, IV insulin protocols, and insulin drip titration
- Strong teamwork skills with ability to meet behavioral expectations in all patient and staff interactions
- Ability to strictly adhere to attendance and call-off policies
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
