Description
Start Date: September 27, 2026
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 3x12 hour night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM | 1:2 patient ratio | Call requirement once every four weeks | Weekend coverage varies
Highlights:
- Phase I Recovery Unit providing post-anesthesia care for a diverse surgical patient population including neurosurgery, orthopedics, bariatrics, ENT, pediatrics, and vascular procedures
- Opportunity to care for ICU-level acuity patients who are recovered in the PACU setting, requiring strong critical care skills
- 13-week contract available through end of February with comprehensive, individualized orientation
- Work with advanced equipment including cardiac monitors, arterial lines, ICP monitoring, fetal heart monitors, and ventilators
- Epic charting system with interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and IV teams
- 24/7 unit supporting OR needs with recovery times typically ranging from 30-90 minutes
Requirements:
- Active North Carolina or Compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years of PACU experience required
- ICU experience required (must have experience managing ICU-level patients)
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS
- Experience with Phase I-II PACU, conscious sedation, arterial line management, ventilated patients, and dysrhythmia recognition
- Pediatric patient care experience and ability to care for all age groups from infants to geriatrics
- Willingness to float to surgical short stay areas for overflow patients
- Flexibility to work Storm Team/Hurricane Team during catastrophic events as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous charge nurse experience
- ICU background prior to transitioning to PACU
- Experience with fetal heart monitoring, ICP monitoring, telemetry, and pediatric PACU
