Schedule:
3x12 night shifts, every other weekend required. Target patient ratios 1:6. Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks available. Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts). Floating to similar units and alternate care locations may be required, including inpatient holding areas.
Highlights:
- Specialized Med/Surg Oncology unit caring for patients who have received chemotherapy and biotherapy administration
- Free access to oncology and chemotherapy education courses through the Cancer Institute, many applicable toward CEUs
- Comprehensive onsite training and supportive team to ensure confidence in caring for the patient population
- ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration certification support provided (approximately 10-hour self-paced course with open-book test)
- Epic EMR, Pyxis medication system, and SBAR communication protocols
- 42-bed unit with interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, lift teams, and rapid response teams
Requirements:
- Active North Carolina or Compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Inpatient medical-surgical experience required
- Experience with 1:6 patient ratios
- Current BLS certification required
- ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration certification preferred (must be willing to obtain prior to or during assignment)
- Proficiency in accessing/managing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, colostomy care, wound care/wound vac, chest tubes, heparin and insulin administration, surgical drains, isolation precautions, and non-invasive airway management
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)
- Willingness to float to similar units and alternate care locations as needed
- Availability to work Storm Team/Hurricane Team and report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
- Attendance at monthly staff meetings required
