Job Opportunity – Bone Marrow Transplant / Hematology Oncology Registered Nurse – Ohio

Start Date: October 5, 2026
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts (days/nights/combination based on department needs); reviewed every 4-week scheduling period

Highlights:

  • Specialized unit focused on bone marrow transplant patients including autologous, syngeneic, and allogeneic transplants, plus CAR-T therapy
  • Mixed acuity progressive care and medical-surgical unit serving patients with complex hematologic malignancies
  • Comprehensive patient population including leukemias, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, and myelodysplastic syndromes
  • 36-bed unit with daily census of 33 patients; Epic EMR system required
  • 72 hours of orientation provided; float to other Medical-Surgical Oncology units as needed
  • Interdisciplinary team support including pharmacy, rapid response, physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse license (valid Compact or Ohio state license required at submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year of current specialty experience
  • Must have medical-surgical and inpatient hematology oncology experience (1 year minimum)
  • Required experience with leukemia/blood dyscrasias, lymphoma/non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and multiple myeloma within the most recent 3 years
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or ONCC Chemotherapy certification required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Nursing degree from ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only)

Core Competencies:

  • Chemotherapy administration and body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
  • Blood and blood product administration
  • Central line blood draws and sterile dressing changes
  • Port access and management, PICC line management, and peripheral line care
  • Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Management of graft-versus-host disease and graft rejection
  • Stem cell therapy support
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Isolation precautions and infection prevention protocols
  • Recognition and communication of abnormal lab values and sepsis indicators

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.

Cons

Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
