Description
Start Date: October 17, 2026
Location: West Virginia
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: Emergency Department shifts with weekend coverage required. Patient ratio of 1:2 for days and nights. 24-hour orientation provided. Orientation held every other Monday.
Highlights:
- Combined Adult/Pediatric Emergency Department with 9 treatment rooms serving all age groups from infants to geriatrics
- Diverse case mix including trauma, acute medical conditions, behavioral health, and critical care interventions
- Cerner electronic medical record system with interdisciplinary support including radiology and interpretation services
- Contract extension opportunity for experienced travel nurses with strong critical care and emergency medicine backgrounds
- Comprehensive orientation with 24 hours of unit-specific training
- Charge experience preferred with opportunity to utilize leadership skills
Requirements:
- Active West Virginia or Compact State RN License (pending license accepted for submission)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; previous travel experience required
- Emergency Department experience with patient ratio experience of 1:4 or better
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (American Heart Association), CPI, MAB, NIHSS, NRP, and TNCC
- Cerner charting system experience required
- Community hospital experience preferred; charge nurse experience preferred
- Minimum 2 manager and/or charge nurse references from the past 2 years required
- Permanent address must be 100+ miles from the facility (75-100 miles considered case-by-case)
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required
Clinical Skills & Competencies:
- Advanced emergency care including intubation, procedural sedation, and central line management
- Critical care interventions: continuous IV sedation, paralytics, vasopressors, and ventilator management
- Trauma care: GSWs, head injury, spinal cord injury, traumatic amputations, burns, and orthopedic trauma
- Cardiac care: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG acquisition
- Respiratory management: BiPAP/CPAP, ABG interpretation, asthma, epiglottitis
- Behavioral health: acute psychosis, suicidal patients, managing violent behavior, psychiatric holds
- Pediatric and neonatal emergency care across all age groups
- Triage, phlebotomy, IV insertion and maintenance, isolation precautions, and blood product administration

- Non-billable modules required (average 8 hours completion time) prior to start date
- Full file due by noon Thursday prior to start date
- Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from last employment date before returning as a traveler
- Current employees of affiliated health systems are not eligible for travel contracts
