Description
Start Date: November 2, 2026
Location: Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week available, every other weekend required, nurse manager creates schedule
Highlights:- 18-20 bed ICU stepdown unit with 1:3-4 nurse-to-patient ratios
- Operates similar to an ICU environment with strong focus on vasoactive drip management and arterial line experience
- Diverse patient population including post-rapid response, respiratory distress, GI bleeds, and complex post-operative patients
- Epic charting system with Pyxis medication management
- Contract length of 13 weeks or longer available through February 27
- Floating to sister ICCU unit as needed; first-time travelers accepted
- Minimum 2 years of progressive care or stepdown nursing experience required
- Current RN license (North Carolina or Compact state)
- ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start date
- Strong proficiency with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive drips including Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, and Cardene
- Experience with conscious sedation, telemetry interpretation, dysrhythmia management, and IV insulin protocols
- Competency in blood product administration, central line management, PICC lines, and heparin protocols
- Experience with chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy management, and isolation precautions
- IV start proficiency required
- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
This progressive care unit provides an excellent opportunity for experienced nurses seeking to work in a high-acuity environment with complex patient populations. You'll utilize advanced critical care skills including vasoactive drip titration and hemodynamic monitoring while caring for post-operative, cardiac, respiratory, and neurological patients across the lifespan. The unit offers comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams, allowing you to focus on delivering exceptional patient care.
Additional Information:- Hospital orientation provided during first week with required attendance at daily classes
- Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8-10 hours, non-billable)
- Scrub colors: Navy, white, or combination of both
- Up to 7 days of time off may be approved; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Special equipment includes bedside telemetry monitors, arterial lines, BiPAP devices, chest tubes, and tracheostomy supplies
- No mechanical ventilators on unit; patients requiring more than one pressor transfer to ICU
