Job Description: CVOR Surgical Technologist\nPosition Summary:\n\nA CVOR Surgical Technologist (Cardiovascular Operating Room Surgical Tech) is a vital member of the surgical team, specializing in assisting during cardiovascular procedures such as open-heart surgery, vascular surgery, and other complex operations involving the heart and blood vessels. They work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to ensure a sterile and well-organized environment throughout surgical procedures.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\nPrepare and maintain the cardiovascular operating room, ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterile and ready.\n\nAssist the surgical team during procedures by passing instruments and supplies in a timely and efficient manner.\n\nMaintain a sterile field and adhere to strict infection control protocols.\n\nSet up and operate specialized equipment such as heart-lung machines, suction devices, and electrosurgical units (in some settings).\n\nMonitor and count instruments, sponges, and needles before, during, and after surgery to ensure nothing is retained.\n\nAssist with patient positioning, draping, and prepping for surgery.\n\nHandle specimens properly and prepare them for laboratory analysis.\n\nParticipate in post-operative room cleanup and restocking of supplies.\n\nStay up-to-date with the latest advancements in surgical technology and cardiovascular procedures.\n\nRequired Skills and Qualifications:\nCompletion of an accredited surgical technology program (Certificate, Diploma, or Associate’s Degree).\n\nCertification as a Surgical Technologist (preferred or required in many states), such as:\n\nCertified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the NBSTSA\n\nTech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) through NCCT\n\nPrevious experience in cardiovascular or operating room settings strongly preferred.\n\nExcellent knowledge of surgical instruments, cardiovascular procedures, and sterile techniques.\n\nStrong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills.\n\nLicensure and Certification Requirements by State (U.S.):\nLicensure and certification requirements for Surgical Technologists vary by state. Here's a summary of key regulations:\n\nStates that Require Certification or Registration:\nMandatory Certification or Licensure:\n\nIdaho\n\nIndiana\n\nMassachusetts\n\nNevada\n\nNew Jersey\n\nNew York\n\nOregon\n\nSouth Carolina\n\nTennessee\n\nTexas\n\nVirginia\n\nIn these states, you typically must graduate from an accredited surgical technology program and obtain a CST credential.
