Job Description: Nuclear Medicine Technologist\nPosition Summary:\nA Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, operates imaging equipment, and works closely with physicians to diagnose and treat diseases. This role combines technical expertise with patient care and safety practices.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\nPatient Preparation:\n\nInterview and screen patients prior to procedures\n\nExplain test procedures and ensure informed consent\n\nPosition patients correctly for scans\n\nRadiopharmaceutical Handling:\n\nPrepare and administer radioactive drugs\n\nMonitor patients for adverse reactions\n\nAdhere to safety protocols for storage and disposal\n\nImaging and Equipment Operation:\n\nOperate gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners, and related equipment\n\nCapture diagnostic images as ordered by a physician\n\nCalibrate and maintain imaging equipment\n\nData Management:\n\nProcess and analyze scan data\n\nPrepare detailed diagnostic reports for physician interpretation\n\nMaintain accurate patient and procedure records\n\nSafety and Compliance:\n\nFollow radiation safety procedures and monitor exposure levels\n\nComply with state, federal, and institutional regulations\n\nParticipate in quality assurance and control programs\n\nCollaboration:\n\nWork with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare providers\n\nAssist in scheduling and coordinating imaging procedures\n\nTrain and supervise student technologists or new staff\n\nQualifications:\nAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field\n\nCertification by:\n\nARRT (Nuclear Medicine – NM) or\n\nNMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board)\n\nStrong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and radiopharmaceuticals\n\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills\n\nLicensure and Certification Requirements by State:\nLicensing requirements for NMTs vary by state.
